Privacy Policy
EmpathyPic ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
1. Information we collect
Provided directly
- Email address when you subscribe to the weekly note or contact us.
- Name and message content when you submit our contact form or send a pitch.
- Preferences such as the topics you'd like to hear about.
Collected automatically
- Basic server logs (IP, user agent, requested URL) for security and aggregate analytics.
- Whether an email was opened or a link was clicked, where supported by your email client.
2. How we use it
- To send the weekly note and any other communications you've explicitly opted in to.
- To respond to pitches, questions and partner inquiries.
- To improve the journal and the site.
- To prevent abuse and comply with legal obligations.
3. Legal basis
Where GDPR applies we process personal data on the basis of your consent (for marketing emails), our legitimate interests in running and improving the journal, and where required, to comply with law.
4. Sharing
We do not sell personal information. We share it only with the service providers that help us operate — for example, our email delivery provider, our hosting provider and our analytics provider. They are bound by written agreements that limit their use of the data to instructed purposes.
5. Retention
We keep subscriber data for as long as you remain subscribed. After you unsubscribe, we keep a minimal suppression record so we don't accidentally mail you again. Contact form messages are retained for up to 24 months unless we have an ongoing conversation.
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, port or restrict the processing of your personal data, to object to certain processing, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. To exercise these rights, write to privacy@empathypic.com.
7. Unsubscribe
Every email we send includes a one-click unsubscribe link. You can also unsubscribe any time on our unsubscribe page. Opt-out requests are honoured within 48 hours.
8. Cookies
We use a small set of essential and aggregate analytics cookies. We do not use third-party advertising cookies on the site.
9. Children
The journal is intended for an adult audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16.
10. Changes
We may revise this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, let subscribers know by email.
